Making the change over to Blender I decided to make a Lightsaber!
I primarily picked this asset to challenge myself, hoping to learn as much as possible about the process in Blender.
Which worked pretty well, I was in pain most of the time ( as expected ) but as I got closer to the end things started to click.
All in all it was actually a smoother transition than I thought, I certainly benefited from having an understanding of the fundamentals and prior experience in 3DS Max.
I actually struggled more with the implementation into Unreal.
The export setup was a little different than I'm used to but I also had some lighting/rendering issues. I wasn't sure if it was an engine thing, a Blender thing or both.
Now regarding the model.
My main focus being modelling and engine implementation, encountering problems and solutions.
I wasn't going for complexity and telling a story through materials.
It certainly shows but I'm quite proud I wasn't too precious with these aspects and instead stuck to my deadline of "a few days".
Until next time!
